Mine, Yours and Ours

*a bit of history* I own my home and Hubby was renting an apartment. He lived so far south it was breaking both of our budgets to drive to see each other, not to mention terribly time consuming! His job was on the rocks and was a dead end position, being the supportive girlfriend I encouraged him to look at jobs that had potential. He applied and was hired almost immediately – woo-hoo!!!! The best part? His new job was in North Dallas!!!  So it only made sense that he would get a place up here or … move in… I feared this. I didn’t want my boyfriend to be living with me. I had done this before and it always fell flat. We talked about it and we decided it would be best if he moved in to an upstairs guest room. I had the master on the main floor. Not so bad, kind of like being roommates with someone you can live with. We were able to get a preview of what it would be like living with each other as married, without the pressure or the awkwardness of the wedding becoming more of a “make is legal” thing. When  "Fiance" moved in we just stuffed boxes and stacked items EVERYWHERE; it didn’t matter, just get it in the house and it stayed that way until more pressing events were over.

Now, Let me set the scene for you. You have been planning you and your hubby’s big day for anywhere from a year to 6 months. You have your dress picked, his tux picked, the location booked and you have even followed proper form and have your registries ready to go for your guests. The day comes and goes off splendidly! You go on your honeymoon and relax for a couple of days and then come home. You open your door as a newly wedded couple and look inside to your future and realize you have stacks and stacks of boxes. Inside these boxes are the wonderful gifts that you had registered for! You suddenly realize you and your new husband have outgrown your home. It is time to sit down and have that first dreaded conversation – “What stays and what goes?”  It was my first realization that we have mine, his and ours and some of it has to go or we need a bigger house... a much bigger house.
